I ran out of sky, so wont be able to get color on this target this year. This is a stack of 39x400 Second in Ha with ZWO ASI1600MM on William Optics FLT132.

Time for galaxies.

After a lot of testing with the ASI1600MM-C here are some of the results that have worked for me.

What GAIN and OFFSET are you using?

Hey Ed, how are things on the east? I was using gain of 138, offset 20.

Try this, Gain of 200 offset 50, I think your OTA is a F/7 without a reducer, if that is the case use a 240 second exposure. You will not notice any loss of detail - the S/N ratio is only marginally different. I do not expose longer than 180 seconds anymore and I hang around 200 gain, most of the time - except when experimenting. Now this is when using NB filters. When LRGB, I use 30 to 45 seconds on L and 60 sec on RBG.

Here are my gain/offset settings after doing my on test.

Gain 0 - Offset 10
Gain 75 - Offset 15
Gain 139 - Offset 21 (Unity)
Gain 200 - Offset 50
Gain 300 - Offset 65 (try this with LRBG and using 20 seconds for L and 45 for RGB) this camera is a performer at the short exposure settings with high Gains) Noise is negligible and signal is terrific)

We are going to have 3 days of pretty decent skies relative to clouds....."Seeing" is not going to be all that good but I will take it.

BTW, nice image!

Ed, thanks so much for the info.

After Galaxy season, I’ll be going back to the RASA, and I also got the Baader f/2 NB filters for it.

I hope we don’t have another year of bad skies.

Brian

I am with you on the skies - it has been a mess everywhere! Just fortunate we are not flooded - frozen - and/or in the line of fires.
