sorry porn and nuns don't mix. Sickest never ending series I've ever seen. Suggest you take Toby's advice.

Hey Tim, once again you have provoked all the important contributors here on the HOG. There are two issues being raised here. The first is highly subjective and involves the very loose definitions of porn and erotic imagery. Depictions of naked men and women in photography has never been considered to be porn. Showing men with erections or women with their legs spread, by itself is no longer considered to be porn. People posed in sexually suggestive ways constitute the main body of erotic art. Photographs which show actual penetration with the intent of sexually stimulating the viewer is porn (not saying any of these are good or bad things). BTW using models dressed as nuns is very prevalent in modern pornography, a lot of people seem to enjoy the contradiction.

If you think that Tim's work is porn to your eyes, then I suggest that you go inside, close the door, pull the blinds, turn off your tv and computer. It's the only way you'll be safe from your definition of porn. I'm not saying that you don't have a right to your opinion, but you should probably stay off of this forum.

Now, since this a photography forum, suggestions to Tim as to how he might improve his particular kind of work is appropriate. Lighting, posing, framing and his sets can all benefit from our suggestions. He wouldn't be posting if he wasn't looking for ways to improve his photography. For example, I suggest that he first vary his distance, perspective and angles for each shot in the series. They're all shot from the perspective, makes the series less interesting. Also more dramatic lighting would add to the visual tension of the series.

I also want to point out that Tim is threading an entertaining approach to his S&M style set up. Whipping another human being is serious stuff on the surface, but his approach is a humorous parody of the real thing. His models are having fun, smiling and feigning fear. Notice that the 'victim' is smiling at the end. Was it torture or fun?

Thanks scsdesphotography, some of what you posted is true, some is not nearly my desire, yet it is welcomed to hear that you have enjoyed the posted images/series.

I will be working in the natural light studio Bubble call his house, I call the garden. The people who live around me all seem to be doing tall (10 foot) fences. I'm just delighted! I have a bunch of ideas and plans for the garden. So this Sunday I will be busy rocken on some new fun with VADA out there.

Guess I will have some new fun things to show early next week. Now back to the garden to get things ready!

Are you saying that if I disagree with a post I should not be able to give my opinion? What is the point of an open forum if all you want is a slap on the back and everyone telling you how great your work is?

Papakatz45, The answer to your first question is, of course not, with the exception of the word definitions, my post was all my opinion. Opinions are welcome. What I was reacting to was putting the porn label on Tim's images. What I stated was that everyone has a right to their opinion, but if you consider nude people in costumes to be porn then you probably shouldn't frequent this group. Unless you enjoy being offended (some people seem to).

Tim's series falls in the category of erotic photography. Most of the photos posted on this forum are not in that category, many of the photographers here are making a serious and creative attempt to perfect the art of capturing the nude form. Some of the work posted here clearly falls in the fine art category, I think we have room for everyone.

Well, let's not forget, one persons erotica is another person's pornography. Or if my opinion is that someone's photography is trash then I am entitled to that opinion and entitled to express that opinion.

Allow me to put am idea into this thread.

I think it is quite obvious that opinions are welcome on this forum. Also, stating an opinion is a perfectly normal form of expression for American citizens.

Making comments is another matter entirely. Opinions have limited value unless the opinion lead to a position enhanced by a comment or comments that lead back to a discussion. To have a discussion one needs to hold a conversation, the exchange of ideas. From my mind I rarely find any fretful conversation issuing from a simple opinion.

Opinions are great in an election, they stem from the pre election dialogue that is presented in our lives. Saying that your opinion is that a person running for office will carries little validity other than informing listeners how you feel; yet it is not the vote, the vote comes down to pulling a lever to express your opinion. But discussion boards such as the HOG are not about voting, is it.

So please, state your opinion, but please tells us why you hold that opinion because this is not a voting booth, it's a forum for discussion.

When someone post pictures on this forum they are inviting critique or feedback. Good, bad or otherwise. Some feedback, such as technically correct or incorrect processes stand on their own. Other critiques come under judgement feeling and nothing more, which is what opinions are. I don't need to give my a reason for my opinion. If I do or don't like something, I do not need a reason. By your reasoning, everyone who commented in the affirmative about the pictures should be telling why they do so. I see you have not asked them to tell why they hold that opinion.
