My sister's wedding ceremony.

Typically, little blinks from countless P&S
get ignored, but raise a larger camera to
your eye, in the front row family pew, no
flash at all, and thaz asking for trouble :-(

I was just there last September and they don't allow photos of any kind. Must have changed since you were there.

Just there where?

Jeez, please take your PC lecture and anger elsewhere. This citizen comes here for genial talk of photographic matters, not for PC opinions.

Yes, there are numerous instances of U.S. Law Enforcement officials giving on-the-spot verbal orders forbidding photography & video-recording for unconstitutional reasons. Such incidents are available for review on YouTube.

But the reason I’m posting a response is because of one particular sentence that jwn wrote, highlighted above in boldface. I admit that I have, verbally only, made such remarks to a friend or very small group of friends in the past (and yes, I am caucasian,) but self-restraint would prohibit me from writing such a sentence publicly, unless there was a point in stating the race, religion, or ethnicity of a particular individual which was pertinent to the story.

I am not so much scolding jwn as I am reminding him that under many circumstances, "P.C." is not a dirty word. I wouldn’t be surprised if more than one Hog would take serious exception to jwn's apparent need to convey an individual stranger’s race in an anecdote that has nothing to do with race. Or does it, jwn? Perhaps you inadvertently forgot to include some pertinent context that you meant to share with us?

To the OP, please understand that I am NOT trying to hijack your topic, but I cannot let that remark in its present form go unaddressed.

P.S. For those WHITE American "conservative-minded" individuals who are contemplating a negative response to the preceding, such as that I'm being too PC or that I should mellow out, $crew you. It is a mindset that we all need to get rid of, no matter who the President of the United States is!

Not been thrown out from a best place, yet.

Been told to cease and desist from one place. This was at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. They don't allow flash photography. Took a photo of Van Gogh's painting of his old pair of shoes with flash. The anti-flash police approached and reminded me of the no-flash photography rule and the next time means, "You're out of here." (Well, not exactly in those words but close.) Needless to say, I immediately clicked the auto-flash to off. I had my point and shoot Panasonic Lumix zs50 at that time which if I may say, took decent photos even without flash.

Van Gogh exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. "Sunflowers" was there, as was "Starry Night." Shot one picture, and was immediately accosted by the local constabulary and politely informed that I was lucky they didn't show me the door, because, "Couldn't I read??" There was a SMALL sign informing about the prohibition against photography. I took no more images, but I do have a pretty cool image of "Sunflowers" they graciously did not demand I delete from my camera! Lesson learned...

Mine was the Alamo, I didn't read the signs, to busy clicking away.

Underneath the Bay Bridge, from the Oakland side. The Property is a little hard to get to and is owned by East Bay MUD. Turns out they are really grumpy about trespassers.

No security guards were harmed in the making of this photograph.

Accademic Gallery, in Florence, at the statue of David. Shooting with my Nikon DSLR, no flash, guards descended on me and said no photography allowed. I pointed out the dozens of other folks surrounding the statue, shooting away with their cell phone cameras. Guards said that's OK, just no "Real cameras" allowed. Go figure!

I was in a Mosque in Paris back in the early 70s and when they discovered my picture taking I was immediately escorted out and deposited on the street. They didn't take the film though.

Photography is intrusive. I start from that fundamental. Accordingly, per situation, I ask permission to take pictures. Some places have no one to ask.

But get this: Several years ago, while in Oxnard, California, I visited a public roadside static display of aircraft and missiles in Point Mugu Missile Park near the Point Mugu military base. I took several pictures of these old aircraft.

Soon, a security patrol officer showed up and asked me to identify myself. The security guy said another had reported me out of a concern that I was photographing base buildings in view from the static display. I told the guy the buildings looked uninteresting. I was just taking pictures of the old aircraft.

Nevertheless, he asked me to move on. I did so, heading south on State Highway 1, with the security patrol following me for several miles.

Yet, I did manage to acquire some decent pictures of military hardware. See attached pictures.

Very strange as during the Mugu Airshow you can shoot any planes.. including the ones you shot. I believe it is just overzealous officials. I understand the reasons for not shooting with flash indoors but those planes are there to be seen and loved. Just absurd.. especially since images of all the really dull and boring building at Pt. Mugu and Pt. Hueneme are online and have been for years.
