What's happened to Refurbished Canon cameras?

For a number of years I have been purchasing wonderful (Like new) refurbished Canon cameras from Canon's own refurbished site. Not much luck anymore. Out of 18 cameras listed, 11 are listed out of stock. I've never seen this in the past. Has Canon discovered some other way to sell these cameras at more profit?

The number of Canon refurbished models in stock varies throughout the year. They sell a lot of refurbished product, so the most popular models sell out quickly. Check back in a week or two. B&H has been mentioned as an alternative for refurbished. Adorama also sells factory refurbished.

Don't know. Don't care. I gave up on Canon back in my 35mm film days. The digital age just gave me more reasons to avoid Canon. If you like them, and can't get the models you want from Canon, I guess you could try places like Adorama, B&H Photo-Video, or such.

I always buy from a retailer. I'd rather let an independent business make the profit.

Cameta has some.

Try Canon Price Watch, google it.
They will let you know what is available from Canon Refurb. They often offer new Canon gear from authorized Canon retailers at prices comparable to Canon's Refurb prices. These are NOT Grey Market Items.

I'm not sure what website you're seeing the numbers you counted. As of Sunday morning at 7:45 am, there are a total of 47 listings on the Canon refurbished cameras (I'm counting the EOS ones, not the point-and-shoots). Of these 47 listings, 34 are in stock. This is roughly 73% of an available inventory being in stock at the time you see it. An hour from now it will probably be less. Canon's inventory constantly changes so as one other person put it, keep checking back, they have some pretty good deals.

I was looking at the point-n-shoot offerings. Today, Sunday morning, there are 18 listed and only 7 in stock.

I have fuond that often when you want it, they don't have it. I di purchase a body two years ago, but in reality the savings don't seem all that great.

Yup, inventory on Canon site is a moving target. I’ve purchased a number of cameras and lenses from them. Often, like waiting for a sale, it takes repeat trips to find the more popular items in stock. To my way of thinking, unless you need something right now, patience is rewarded especially with the 1 year Canon warranty.

They sell pretty well and you have to check back often and snap one up when they become available. They are like new when you get them so they are worth it. I bought a couple of lenses from them as refurbs and they come in a plain box and didn't have a manual. No big deal though since they don't need a manual and if you think you want to read one they are available online. I bought an 80D as a refurb too and it was perfect. No problems at all. Just wait until they come up again and snap it up. Check daily.
