Thousands of ship models have been crafted by those who have an appreciation for oldest U.S. Navy
ship that is still on active duty. Although this model is not as grand as some others, it brings some good memories of a friend who made it. He always loved fishing and the sea and now that he is gone it is a reminder of the years our families shared our lives together. From a more personal view it was the ship

My wife and I are both retired from the Navy. My wife also retired on board the USS Constitution.

Great old ship! My nephew who was a captain in the navy was able to stage a commissioning aboard the ship and present captain bars to his wife who served in the navy and was stationed at the Pentagon. She graduated from Annapolis with a degree in English and wrote speeches for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Except for the low ceilings (I'm 6'4"), it was great to have the run of the ship -- good photo ops.

I didn't have such a grand setting. I just retired while I was the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department Officer aboard the USS New Orleans (LPH-11). The Navy was good to me. I was lucky that I joined. Cheers

If I'm not mistaken, I think her nickname was "OLD IRON SIDE" because she was make of oak and the British canon balls just bounced off her. Beautiful model, Thanks.
