Check the return policy of your local store vs B&H or Adorama. I have only dealt with B&H myself, but can tell you that their policy is marvelous. If you don't like it you can return it, for whatever reason, within 30 days. My local camera store's policy couldn't touch theirs. Regardless of tax issues, for me the return policy makes it.

Adorama is the same, 30 days.

While it’s good to support your local store, that tax is a chunk of change. As for online, it doesn’t get better than either Adorama or B&H. Both offer top equipment and great customer service at good prices. I’ve dealt with both many times and had no issues, even when I’ve had to return an item.

Havent we discussed all these issues in the last week ! ???

If you have used your local store to help evaluating your decision and comparing cameras, etc and using their advice - then buy from the local store.

Dont use them for their service - and then screw them by buying online to save a few bucks.

I always buy from Arlington Camera. I always buy from the same salesman, who knows Nikon inside and out. Whenever I've had a problem I've been able to call him on the phone and he's had the answer. It's worth that 8% to have a knowledgeable person on my contact list that I can call and know that I can get an answer to my camera problems, which I have done on several occasions. I also just enjoy getting into the store.

If you're ever in Dallas-Fort Worth, Arlington is halfway between. Arlington Camera is not far off I-30. Ask for Gil. Take a picture of Cowboys Stadium (aka AT&T Stadium) which is just next door while you're there.

I just bought a fuji system and a few accessories from my local store. I had no intention of using them and buying elsewhere. I simply asked the question for discussion purposes.
Case closed for me. Happy with the purchase of my new X-T3. Thanks superfly - have a great day.

I would go with B&H. I have had the most luck with them over the years. Their customer service is second to none!
As for taxes, no one likes them..including me. Put paying them to California is just adding insult to injury. Unless you Agree with what your state is doing with YOUR money.
I live in NY, and for the above reason I buy on line when ever possible, and if I avoid the tax doing so I will loose NO sleep over it.
Bottom line is, your saving almost 10% on what you buy. It only makes sense, especially if the $1800 camera is a "stretch" for you to do so.
Good luck to you.

They do not charge you taxes but from what I've found out that is at the end of the year ;a form is sent out to your state for purchases made, then state sends you a bill

We go on and on and on about how goo H & H is or Autorama etc. We all agree "THE DISCUSSION is buying local or on line. If your local store is non existence or bad OK. If chose to buy on line we lose the local stores and the little guys go out of business. The mail order stores are now going to have to charge state sales tax. That might help level the playing field but the big guy can't sit down and talk to you or show you some tricks that might make it better or easer.

Just go out a shoot a picture and ignore me

The tax usually goes with the state of purchase. If you are buying in a state with no tax (via online), or in a state which waives the tax for online sales, you owe no state any tax.

If you live in a state with sales tax and your retailer does not collect and remit it for you, you're supposed to declare use tax voluntarily when you file your state tax documents, which you sign under penalty of perjury.

Stores can not charge any tax (although some restaurants charge tips and the tip is not voluntary)

Their web site suggested I could use Amex points rather than cash, but that didn't work on the site. When i spoke to.customer service, I was told they do not take Amex points.

You're the 2nd person who has said that. I'd be grateful to get an email with the URL of the page where you found this info and a screenshot. TIA.
