I currently have a Canon EOS 70D with a variety of lenses. Gets to be a bit much fpr extensive travel and long days on day trips, lugging it around Europe last summer was not easy. I also have an Olympus Stylus Tough which is great for the beach and snorkeling, but limited for scenery, etc.
We have a trip coming up this Fall that includes a 10 day cruise in the eastern Med starting in Athens, including Israel, ending in Rome where we will stay for several days. I was looking at some mirrorless cameras with decent built in zoom capability that could fit in a pocket. I would rather not carry lenses around.
Suggestions please.

For pocket sized, look at the Canon GX9 and similar sized / featured cameras. I like the GX9 both for the size and to capture in RAW+JPEG. I might share something via social media using the wireless link from the camera to my phone and have the full-sized RAW for editing when I get home.
You might also travel with just one DSLR and one general lens like an 18-135 IS and leave the rest of the lenses / gear behind. Or, bring a few lenses on the trip, but limit yourself to just the body and one lens for each day's touring.

What your describing is a point and shoot not Mirrorless. Mirrorless cameras have interchangeable lenses like the new Canon R. You may be thinking of bridge cameras with built in zoom lens.

A pocket sized camera is mirrorless. Whether the camera has an interchangeable lens has nothing to do whether it is also mirrorless ....

I agree, that is a pain. For your kind of photography snaps, I wouldn't suggest a DSLR. You need a smaller zoom point and shoot camera. I wouldn't suggest one with a super zoom since you probably don't really need it. Most point and shoots are already mirrorless. They are small and don't need a mirror box. I'd say to go to your favorite camera store and see what they have to offer. Write down a list of things you think you might need such as does it shoot raw, do you need it to shoot raw, how large is the sensor, how long does the battery last, will it do other things that you may like such as WiFi or GPS? There's a lot you may or may not need or want. What about video? On and On.....

Canon "G" series cameras are your best bet, mirrorless cameras are ok but you still have the lens to contend with. Most Advanced fixed lens cameras have great image quality and a lot better to travel with.

I'm in the must have a viewfinder crowd for those bright sunny days when the screen is near impossible to read. Many milles and pics with Canon G series.

Travel right, travel lite. That is my motto and I am sticking with it. I will be taking my third Viking river trip this June and my two camera's will be the Sony HX99V pop up viewfinder makes this camera a dream outside (shoots RAW) and my trusty RX100M2. Both have Zeiss lenses, on has a 24-750 mm (HX99V) and the other a 28-100 1.8 lens. BOTH FIT INTO POUCHES SO I AM HANDS FREE, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT ON ANY TRIP. Trust me. Anything bigger is a waste of money.
Get yourself a belt pouch for it and your set. For the pouch I recommend the Manfrotto pouch.

I use the Tamron 18 to 400 when traveling does a great job especially in good light ,it is not "tac sharp" especially at 400mm , but thats why they make more expensive glass. I also noticed a slight improvement after micro adjusting the focus .

I also recently purchased the Canon Gs9 for an upcoming trip for which photography is not the main purpose. It doesn't have much of a telephoto capability - but then I mostly use that feature on my DSLR when I shoot wildlife. The GS9 has a 1inch 20MP sensor, and it has a lot of the large-camera features such as in-camera HDR (for shooting inside buildings, etc., but also has the multi-shot low-light low-noise feature for use inside really dark buildings. It creates both RAW and JPG files. And it is really small - almost too small, but it fits in a pocket very easily. The shots I have taken so far with it seem to be very good quality images.

Any of the Sony RX100 series cameras produce high quality photos, though fairly pricey.
