I am looking for a comfortable sling bag that has a customizable main compartment, can fit over both shoulders, which has compartments that are easily accessable and is comfortably centered on back. For use with a dslr(when purchased) a flash,a few lenses, and some accessories and area for tripod. And place(external) to put a water bottle. Probably a small-medium size one. I have a regular size camera bag now which i have to place into an old flexible backpack. When going on a hike(up to two miles) i have left my backpack in my auto and brought my camera with neck strap and stored my water bottle in my pocket with some crackers. The backpack is just to uncomfortable to carry around and the camera and lenses are very difficult to access with out putting it on the ground.

Have you considered a belt such as
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/736008-REG/Lowepro_LP36284_0AM_S_F_Deluxe_Technical_Belt.html
I have an older model and find that it gives me much easier access to equipment than a backpack or sling bag...and it takes the weight off your shoulders and back.

Lowepro and Domke both have some pretty good sling bags to choose from.

I've had several Lowepro bags/backpacks, and I have one fairly serious complaint. They do not put enough of the "loop" material inside the backpack. I had a Flipside 300, which I returned, and I got a Fastpack 350 today. In both cases, there was not enough of the loop material sewn inside the pack to let me put the dividers where I wanted.

I have a large Lowepro bag, and all the interior walls are covered with the material, so I can put the dividers anywhere I want. With the Fastpack 350, the loop material is in short supply, so I have to put the dividers where Lowepro wants me to put them. I hope they're not doing that to save money.

I have the largest Kata sling bag, a Tenba waist pack and a Tamarac back back. Unfortunately the sling bag was my last purchase not my first and only purchase

I like the Kata because
(1) it is easy to get my camera out of the bag
(2) the yellow interior makes it easier to find things
(3) there is room for my 80-400 Nikon lens and my 105 macro as well as my camera(D300s with battery pack and 18-100 lens and quick release plate.)
(4) the storage compartment on top is large enough to hold filters, micro cloths, lens pen, tissue, wallet, asthma inhaler, phone, warer bottle and a few other things----not that I would ever carry all of that at one time
(5) the sling can be adjusted to left or right hand use as well as back pack use (I had to do this on one occasion when I was on a long hike in and out or a ravine) Also can be attached to a luggage troley
(6) tripod carrier is optional but it also is handy for monopod.
(7) it is the most comfortable pack I have ever used.
I am an older (73) female who carries whatever equipment I intend to use.

I emailed Lowepro, and money is the reason.

"Point taken Jerry.

The reason for limited Velcro, in many of these “cases” is cost.

Believe it or not, decisions need to be made at the “cents” level at times, to meet a specific price-point."

Thanks for the info on the Kata....They look awesome but I need to find a nearby retailer. Camera bags are a touch and feel, not a "one size fits all". Pretty sure Calumet carries them.

I had the same problem.
I have a large Lowepro backpack which I use every now and then on big trips far away.

I have a small tamarac I use when I hike a mountain in WV.

I have the Domke large shoulder bag I use around town.

All bags are nice. If I could have only one bag I would choose the Domke.
The shoulder strap just makes more since in most of my situations. I use a impact shoulder bag for light stands.

The Domke usually carries 1 5dmkiii two lenses of which am70-200 is always one and three 680(recent purchase) speedlights. Its plenty big enough but a bit heavy loaded. If you get the Domke you may want to get a gel strap. It can work on your shoulder after a while.

I carry a DSLR, three lenses, Cokin P kit w/12 filters (including CPL), small flash, separate large light meter, extra batteries, cleaning kit, iPad, Apple Camera Connection Kit, cables, charger, disc reflectors and a few other items in an old medium M-Rock single sling bag. It has outlasted a LowePro Slingshot 200 (about 2/3 the size of the M-Rock) and cost about 1/2 as much.

I have a LowePro Passport bag. Has adjustable padded section plus room for other stuff and one section has a zip so you can expand it - I have had 3 bottles of wine in that as well as my camera and a couple of lenses. Also has outside pockets for papers ands room for a water bottle. Only drawback is outside pockets don't have a closer but I fixed that with a couple of bits of stick-on velcro

I use a Lowepro Slingshot 202AW sling bag and find it very comfortable and a good size for most of my work, and occasionally use my Lowepro DSLR videopack 250 AW (not a sling bag) for heavier gear. The 202AW would be worth a look its very practical, and the AW feature adds protection against nasty weather. Google Lowepro and take a look at their cataloge. Now and then I will use my Lowepro S&F vest but only when going bush. Depending on your needs I think you will find a Lowpro item to suit your needs.

I have tried sling bags and am never satisfied. I hike with my camera nearly every day and find that a good backpack (I use a rock climbers back pack from REI) and the Cotton Carrier Strapshot to carry the camera. It is a great set up for me. When I bend down or move around everything stays snug without swinging around. Also with the lanyard (supplied by Cotton Carrier) on the camera I can walk or stand with the camera in my hand when needed and it's weight is supported by the lanyard (kind of hangs in my hand) When I want a longer outing I move the Cotton Carrier Strapshot to my weekend of expedition back pack

I carry a Crupmler. I have used it for a couple of years now and like it a lot. It affords you the ability to customize the inside to fit whatever need you may have for your camera(s) and or lenses. It also has several compartments to store filters, SD cards, or lens cleaning supplies. All of this and it's much smaller than most ladies pocketbooks, and the strap to carry it is wide and comfortable. Just google Crumpler to see their selection of bags.
