Yes, but also be aware I think much of that has been resolved with the update, plus key word was it is "free" so why not give it a try?

Yes, and apparently the new version addressed most of the issues. I don’t currently have a camera that uses it, but I’ll give it another shot when I finally pull the trigger on a D500.

Are you trying to make up for a less than stable tripod? The remote shutter won't help with shutter shock. You may want to take a look at this video which suggests a full-hands-on approach to stabilizing your camera and long lens.

A note on smartphone options for remote shutter release. I'm a Canon shooter and use my iphone to perform remote shutter release. The Canon app is excellent for a number of things that go beyond merely tripping the shutter. The extended live view including moving focus and exposure are fantastic.

That being said, just to trigger the shutter on a tripod mounted camera to capture an otherwise carefully composed photo, I think my iphone solutions of Overkill.

Most reviewers believe the Vello or the Amazon versions are good substitutes for the very high priced OEM versions.

Stardust you make a good point. I hope Nikon fixed the issues with iOS. Definitely give it a try first, but remember free is worthless if it doesn't work!

Most of the apps don’t use IR. They use Bluetooth or WiFi.

If it has been fixed, the real beauty of it, other than being free is that you can see what you’re shooting and you can change settings.

I mentioned this waay at the beginning ... except mine cost $9.95 last year.
I find it really handy for no shake, slow and tripod shots.
