Never hear of Alfred Cheney Johnston. I studied The Old Masters paintings. Then I practiced until I got what I was looking for.

That is an excellent shot, I like it very much.
Personally, for folks that do so shoots of "joined" folks, I don't find it vulgar at all, except when we delve into the heavy smut stuff of women subjugated and their faces covered in semen type stuff. That isn't anything but tacky no matter if the one being gooed over was into it or not (IMO).

Then you would love Alfred Cheney Johnston, worked with Flo Ziegfeld as the still photographer. His work was heavily influenced by the grand masters of painting. His hand gestures and poses were drawn from the great painters. But his most striking contribution was the manner he worked to imitate the elements of composition. Just amazing work.
Good Location for images and information on him, but a few images to wet the palate.

After looking at the link I remembered an image of Fannie Brice I saw a few yrs back, I don't know if you ever heard of her, she was the voice of Baby Snooks on the radio up into the 1950s.

I really like this because it is intimate yet tasteful. There is so much scope for this sort of work when done correctly. No distracting rubbish in the b/gd, as so many images on here seem to have, which is refreshing as the couple are the obvious focal point. If you want my opinion (even if you don't 
) cropping the left of image (knees) would bring even more attention to the intimacy. They sort of "stick out" and distract a little from the overall impact. As the "embrace" component of the shot is so subtly lit, the knees appear slightly intrusive and detract. Hold a sheet of card over that area and see if you agree. Very nice shot though and pleasing to see a bit of though and planning
