Dx lenses with nikon d750

I have a recently made the big leap from d7100 to d750 (and I am sooooo happy!). I know that I can use my dx lenses on the new body and that there will be a crop factor. However, I’m wondering if there will be any noticeable improvement or change in the quality of photos with these older lenses. I plan on gradually acquiring the fx lenses. Thanks, in advance.

People often say that old - "legacy" or "vintage" - glass is better than modern glass. Maybe, maybe not. The D750 can adapt to DX lenses.

Answer: You can use DX lenses with the FX format D750. If you use a DX lens, you will need to set the "Auto DX Crop" item of the "Image Area" menu to tell the camera to either remain in FX mode (and suffer severe vignetting of your images), or to automatically switch to DX mode whenever a DX lens is attached."

Newer lenses have better anti-reflective coatings on the glass. They help to reduce flare and ghosting. Nikon also has their nano-crystal coating which is a fairly new.

In general, regardless of how "good" an old lens may be, it usually doesn't match the quality of new lenses, which are design specifically for digital, and have considerably better coatings. However, DX lenses have only been around since the advent of APS-C cameras, and are "modern" compared to the old film lenses.

You will have an improvement in dynamic range and high ISO image quality thanks to the larger sensor and bigger photo receptors, but sharpness and contrast, which are lens characteristics, generally will be similar.

You will have few pixels than pictures taken with the D7100. In general I would say if you use the same DX lenses the new D750 will deliver less quality images than your old D7100.
