OK Chris! Misnomers in photography are abundant so don't be nit picking about the use of words in a photographic forum. As long as you understood what others meant that's all it counts.

I did, Bebu … was just pointing out the phraseology used is actually incorrect!

Oh, I see, Paul … okay …

BTW - I don't mind if you don't agree with me - about the phrase being incorrect …

It takes disagreement to bring things like this to the fore. I do believe, however, a more correct phrase needs to be found. If it means I'm chasing windmills - so be it …

But, I'll tell you this - if it comes down to that - I intend to get some damned good pics of it - meanwhile!
AND - if I HAVE to use a "constant maximum aperture" f2.8 Zoom Lens - to do it - it's power for the course!

Yes, Paul … it was Richard who clarified it further by indicating Constant MAXIMUM aperture (fastest) …

But, you see - you've just underlined the problem with this phraseology - it has many different ways to interpret it. To me - a constant aperture lens - is one which stays open, regardless of WHAT you do.

If the lens stops down to f40 … it can hardly be referred to - as a "constant aperture lens" - can it, Paul?

Have you seen this article about a CONSTANT APERTURE zoom lens? (Yellow highlight mine)
