Anybody have any comments/knowledge on the Canon EOS Immersion classes offered by Canon?
I'd like information on that also
I attended one in Tempe, AZ a few weeks ago. Immersion topics ranged from beginners to advanced. Paid $25 which got everyone a $25 gift certificate from the sponsor Tempe Camera, a very nice buffet lunch, a $50 discount if you wanted to take one of the advanced classes, a chance to speak one on one Canon reps, a chance to play with a variety of lenses and cameras and speak to staff about them. A special promo on Selected Pixma printers, received a nicely printed product book, met some very educated photographers, listened to a dissertation by an explorer of light who displayed a collection of photos taken from 1956 to present and listened to the stories behind many, including war photojournalism, presidential portraits, and candids of the Beatles, just to name a few. If that sounds worth it to you, consider taking 5-6 hours out of a day to attend. It was a great day for me. My thanks to Canon and Tempe Camera.
Thanks for sharing. I am really interested in participating in such class. I would appreciate if you could share how I could find out when and where one will be offered in my area (Central Florida).
My apologies. I did not attend an immersion seminar, it was a "Live Learning" seminar. It was for the intermediate photographers. They have them for beginners also. The immersion classes cost significantly more. $150-$300 range. There is one scheduled in Coral Gables on September 8, with a few more in Miami. You can find a complete list by Googling "Canon live learning center" for the details. Sorry for the bad info.
The Canon seminar I attended was from an Explorer of light. His main idea for photograph taking is "just take the picture any way you can and fix it in Photoshop.
I wasn't impressed with that theory.
I did find a pro couple who actually instructs you on how to use your own gear. He shoots and instructs on Canon, and she shoots and instructs on Nikon. So you get the best of both.

Sorry you had a less than adequate experience. These are not designed to provide lessons per se. They were to share technical information on metering, AF, BBF, general and specific information on camera operation. They did accept questions and were very accomodating.
The explorer of light was a separate section of the program which took place after the lunch break.
