Snapped on the golf course this morning a pair of downy or hairy?
Beautiful, the one on the left looks like he prepared himself to grab the tree.

Downys, both.
Downy Woodpecker have black stripes under the tail as shown on the woodpecker on the right side of the tree.
A Hairy Woodpecker is all white under the tail,
(no black stripes ).
I found it's easy to distinguish between a Downy and a Hairy woodpecker by looking at the proportion of the beak to the head. The Downy has a small beak compared to the Hairy, whose beak is 1/2 to 3/4 the length of the head.
It's definitely not Woody!
Pecking in Stereo I'd imagine....haaha
Downy it is, many thanks to all who responded
Looks like a contest - which one gets to drive the Golden Spike.
