Indeed fantastic, tho a barren beach under every rock and grain will be a story. I am old enough to have awakened to the beeps of Sputnik and to checking the newspaper to see when Echo would brightly zoom over shinning brightly... tho just a mylar bag filled with mothball vapors,,, we, the public, were amazed. The Press has fallen thru by not making this a major major and educating the public and putting the thrill of discovery and "Curiosity" in the active minds of youth.
Yes,,,, and the photo is interaactive the photo changes with when my mouse Rovers over the photo.

Unfortunately, the press has much more important things to cover right now like who wants to put who back in chains or how much tax did someone pay 15 years ago. I suspect a lot of people are barely aware of what is going on up there.

Isn't that the truth. I remmeber when I was about 10 we all sat in the back yard and watched Sputnik fly over.

Well mars is like the old Model T Ford ... you can have any color you want as long as it is red. "The Red Planet". RED IRON OXIDE dust is what color? Yep, Red.
My guess is that like historic "color" shots they are made by using colored RBG filters one at a time and combining them to give color. Historic 3D shots of mars are out there from previous trips with the little rovers. Transmission of a single signal is much more efficient...
With the exception of the Ford color,,, the comments are "I think - as I recall" comments.
