What does it means... 'Learning to be a good photographer?????'
I spotted this comment in another thread and quite frankly I am not sure what it is to 'be a photographer', so a 'good photographer'????
Carrying a gizmo, whatever it is, is not 'being a photographer'. (porteur)
Recording an image for 'posterity' is not being a photographer. (witness/voyeur)
Getting paid for the above? (mercenary and we all know what that implies)
So, what the hell is a photographer?
A good photographer keeps an eye on the important aspects of photography. With photos of people, don't crop at someone's joints. Also, with people, crop where the body curves inward. It will make them look slimmer. Scan around the edges of an image and look at the background also for distracting elements. Don't shoot everything from standing height. Watch out for harsh lighting conditions. There are plenty of things a good photographer will look for.
Someone who can consistently take well-composed, exposed, in-focus photographs...

A good photographer is a person that can take the photos that their client (be that themselves or others) wants taken in the manner wanted by that client/self.
The result could be sharp or soft, bright or dark, busy or simple. If that photographer can take what's wanted then they are good.

Got it! Good old Internet!
"Definition of photographer
: one who practices photography
especially : one who makes a business of taking photographs"
According to the actions of some, a photographer is a person who buys the latest auto-everything camera, struts around with it and declares in the hearing of everyone, "Last week I couldn't even spell fotogafer, and now I are one."
Now I realize you probably never hear someone actually say that, but I think you know the attitude I am talking about.
How about, "an individual who has some sort of device for capturing images with which he is satisfied"!
If you want to be a "good photographer" - study the craft of photography
If you want to become a "better photographer" -take photos with artistic intent
If you desire other people to think your a "good photographer" -don't show them your crappy photos,
don't post post redundant photos, only display the ones you like most!
“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.”

That sounds like a 'snapper' on Auto.
For me, a good photographer is one who can compose and present an interesting image. To do so, a good photographer needs to be able to identify an interesting subject and and know how to use the tools of light, color, tone, exposure, focus, depth of field, perspective, proportion, etc etc to compose the frame in order to enhance and emphasis that subject.
It is not about capturing what you see. It is about presenting what you would like to see.
