Yes I will contact my agent tomorrow. I do have multiple policies with them so that should have some weight. There have been no claims on this policy so that is not a factor. Thank you for your comment.

There have been lots of prior discussions on the pros and cons of insuring your photo gear. This is not one of them. I do want to ask if others have had a huge increase in their insurance policy premium. The premium for my Personal Articles Policy from State Farm increased from $187. to $275. I find that outrageous. Does anyone care to comment if they have been affected as well? Is there another insurance company you would recommend? My thinking is that as equipment ages, their value would decrease, not increase. It does state inflation coverage applies so that may be a factor. Thank you.

Depends completely on the value of your gear.

Just a somewhat tangental thought that came to me while reading some of these posts.
I have full coverage on a classic car for $14000 @ $140 a year (no deductible, depreciation, etc). I wonder why a vehicle that is driven in traffic has full coverage for less than camera equipment that is stored at home in a protective case?

That is a good reason for why I say $275 for that coverage for photo equipment is outrageous. Maybe cameras get stolen more frequently. Thank you for your response.

If you are a professional photographer, your home owners insurance may not cover your loss. Check and take care. In some states, there are limitations on the amount of business property covered.

Theft of photo gear is actually a higher risk than classic car theft. Classic cars are rarely taken out of their locked garage (mandatory). Never allowed to be taken to work (no coverage). Pleasure use only. Our gear is taken all over God’s Creation. We leave it in our cars, take it to work, weddings, amusement parks, on vacation all over the world and wherever we go so does our gear. (Left my camera in a restroom in LA and came back 5 minutes later and it was gone.) Would anyone insure all of someone’s gear everywhere in the world and no requirement that it be even locked up for a couple hundred dollars a year? I”ll take the classic car risk any day. IMHO
