We have plenty of these Black racers, they don't mind posing.
Sometimes they lose.

Bummer for the snake. Black racers are absolutely beautiful snakes.
I was going to say "Fast buggers, aren't they?", but that one in the last shot wasn't.....

Ditto. Saw one a couple weeks ago in Florida and that one was Fast!
But the one in your last pic........
They are pretty prolific here in our development in Ocala Florida, one came in the back door, we live on the twelfth fairway of Royal Oaks golf Club, he hid under the lazy boy, unfortunately whilst extracting him I crushed his body in the rockers, he was still alive and alert six hours later in the woods, but a week later we spotted his carcass on the next door neighbour's roof.
Is this why those birds have long necks? Good shot, by the way!

Many thanks, this was literally 20 yards from our back door, I managed quite a few shots and the heron did swallow the snake.
