We hiked the Johnston Canyon trail to Upper Falls. From the parking lot a paved trail winds along Johnston Creek with a series of waterfalls and sections of creek beds to the upper falls and beyond. The trail starts at an RV park in the south of Banff park off Bow River Parkway aka Route 1A. The photos are from an spur trail down to the creek to visit a cave and the structure that creates a bend in the creek. The creek was super clear and blue-green color.

These are beautiful images Mike. In the first shot, it looks like that outcropping in the stream broke off from the main rock formation, maybe a million years ago. It is a very interesting image.

Thanks SpyderJan, it was a pleasant hike with probably 20 waterfalls/cascades along the path.

It does look like a huge boulder broke off. The water fall close up doesn't show how the wall of the outcropping curves around and is part of the entire formation. It appears connected to land on the other side of the creek, but a gap may have filled in over the years. Amazing how water can sculpt land.

You're welcome Mike. My wife and I loved visiting the parks in south Utah this past September!

Thank you!
There were three sets of young and two sets of older legs in our group.
The trail did not have much elevation change or rocky terrain, probably the least of the trails we hiked.
Hiking down to the creek was optional and we were well rested so on we went.
