I was looking at reviews of the Nikkor 500mm f5.6 prime and they are pretty good. One of my first posts asked why Canon and Nikon did not make a f5.6 prime since it would be much lighter and cheaper than an f4 or f2.8. I had a fair amount of responses just mocking me for the question. However, it looks like this lens is a very good one at a reasonable (if $3600 is reasonable) price and it is considerably lighter than my Canon 100-400 ii. Do people know/think if Canon is considering a similar lens??
Canon's lens development has been emphasizing the RF mount. They've owned the 100-560 range for a few years with the series II L coupled with an 1.4x that is supported now even on Rebel bodies. They may not have seen the market for another 500 prime while developing the Series III 600L and the RF mounts. Maybe the Nikon lens will generate the need for a competitive model, probably not.

Canon does have a very nice 400/5.6L lens (much sharper than the old 100-400 and its so lightweight, it can hang around your neck all day long and you won't know its there. Because of that, I think its one of the best lenses for BIF. Its around 1200 or 1300 bucks new. So, its a good lens and its cheap too!
