I'm a newbie, anything on how to take great pictures

Practice. Practice. Practice!

Experimentation with the technical aspects of your camera. Ie, ISO settings, F stops.

Follow the golden rule when composing your shots.

Be observant of nature and your environment. It can teach you a lot.

Pay attention to how light plays a big role in good shots. (Sun Light).

Stunning transformation! Removing the amber helps for realism. Her right eye needs darkening like the left eye. PhotoShop has a soft brush for darkening the right eye...as some other apps.

If you have Microsoft Windows 10 the application is already tied into the program within photos.
Open up a photo and you will see that you have the ability to edit that photo.
You can enhance it, change the tone and hues as well as adjust the photo.
Click upon adjust photos and scroll down to where it says, spot fix. Spot fix is that part of the app where you can retouch spots, cracks, and even fix red eye.
Thanks.

I use this Windows10 Application all the time. In fact when I open any of my photos in my Photos Folder, the selected photo opens by default with this Windows10 App.
This is after I have processed the raw file in Classic Lightroom CC and then exported the image as a JPEG to my Finished JEPGS folder.

I just tried this and it works quite well, although I ended up on one photo with Mom's nose on top of Dad's head. Too bad to can't just undo the last action. I had to reset it and do the spot removal again. You can't adjust the size of the spot removal circle.

If you zoom in as shown in the attached photo, it changes the effective size of the blue circle, which does not change size on the screen. (Allows you to fix a smaller defect without bleeding over into another area.) It also lets you see smaller defects. You can also undo the last fix that you did with the arrow shown in the picture. Download this to see what I wrote on the image.

Note that Lightroom has a similar tool with a few additional adjustments possible.

I'm scanning old negatives. I came across a batch of about 10 rolls that had apparently been trashed by my kids years ago, separated from the pictures and stuffed in an envelope. The following before and after pictures are of the same negative "fixed" with this tool. This is straight out of the scanner without any color adjustment or any other adjustments. Sorry for blanking out my wife's face. She's sensitive about having her picture posted anywhere. By the way, this was taken in around 1980 on Kodacolor II film. Download to see better. Yes, I did try cleaning the negative before scanning it. What you see is what I couldn't get off.

Thank you so much. I didn't take the time to really explore it at the time. I am scanning old slides and photos and this makes quick work of it.

The person to thank is the OP who pointed out this application. I learned everything about it in the past two days. I shared what I discovered. Photo editing software like Lightroom may have a similar feature, but this is quick and effective and free. I'm going to rethink trying to clean my negative and slides after discovering this.
