I am considering making a website for my photography and was wondering what others use. I have a Wordpress site that I used years back to blog a certain event, but haven't used it since. I know that I constantly see the ads for WIX and I'm sure there are many, many more.

It depends what your goal is. Google offers free web sites, or you can pay a hosting company.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Basically, I want to display my work, but not sure how or the ultimate goal for that matter. I'm continually storing them on Google Photos and will continue since I can make an album for someone and then send them the link which is easy for everyone. If I had a website, I could also display photos of all the different things I have shot or the styles that I typically shoot. Folks who only see what I have shot for them, don't know what other things I do unless they ask and I make an album for that purpose.

I have not used my photography for income, but would like to investigate that as well. While a lot of folks have said "you should sell your pictures", I have no idea how or how to market. In my own humble opinion, I don't think they are as sellable as folks may think. About every time I think I've taken a good shot, I'll see someone else's work and want to hang up my camera. I really enjoy photography and am slowly learning more, very slowly.

I use Coppermine Photo Gallery, but I write my own code for my website. What shows up is only what I put there.
Many hosting companies have site builder software available. Each may be a little different.

Have a look at SlickPic. Not very well known but they have a free version depending on what features you want.
I used the free version for a couple of years until I wanted a few extra features (that I must admit I didnt really need).
They have a very helpful and quick response help desk which I only needed in the very early stages.
Very easy learning curve in my opinion.
I have my own address and most that visit my website think it is my own creation. I'm non pro but do get a few requests to buy pics (interestingly, mainly from North Americans who visited NZ and missed something that they see on my site. I just send them a free jpg with a few conditions attached).
My site is just for family and friends really, but Ive had over 75,000 'page views' in about 4 years or so. Have to say I dont have enough friends and family to account for this. There is an option to set up Google Analytics, but havent done so, to track where the views are coming from if you wanted to know.

Not sure I would be able to do any code work. I know my sons could and would just roll their eyes at me.

If you use CANON you could try IRISTA. I think they offer something upto 20gb free, extra capacity has to be paid for.

If you have Lr CC check out Adobe My Portfolio - free
If you would like to try a drag and drop website tool - look at Weebly.com

I will share my Weebly Photo site in a personal message to show another option.

If you wish to create your own website, use Microsoft Expression Web, which now is FREE, and quite comprehensive.

Take a look at Smugmug. Cost can be very low if you just want to display

Not necessarily Coppermine. (Didn't know how familiar with coding you may be.) Many hosting companies provide site building software that lets you put stuff on a page/site. I saw one a long while back that had a template for photographers.

My tech-savvy son has gone so far as to tell me NEVER to touch the computer's inner workings or software settings...EVER! I guess he gets tired of fixing things I have fixed first...

That's a lot different from writing HTML/PHP/CSS/JS for web pages.

I use Zenfolio. $60/year for the basic package which includes unlimited photo storage, easy site building tools, a nice selection of templates, and the ability to build custom pages. Higher prices packages allow removal of all Zenfolio branding as well as selling directly from your site.
