Scenic is an unincorporated community adjacent to the Badlands National Park about 50 miles southeast of Rapid City.
According to the Federal Writers' Project (1940), South Dakota place-names, v.1-3, University of South Dakota, page 60, the community was named Scenic for the "scenic" setting of the town site.
