The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is the prime attraction of a week of celebrations & events in & around Anchorage & towns all around the area.
Running with the Reindeer is one of these events. Shot at street level, 5-6 rows of people back, hand-held, overhead, some relying 100% on AF: at 5'2", 5 rows back, I couldn't see much, let allow aim! Most shots are all cropped a lot (can't zoom in one-handed!) & brightened (Auto ISO - "never" again); all are very contrasty or way too saturated in the colours.
There is much dressing up, a little (!) drinking and a whole lot of fun. Posted to share the fun - hope you enjoy.
Nice, that’s when you need to shoot live with an articulated screen.
You are being far too hard on yourself! You have captured the fun and unique aspects of this celebration in a series of captivating shots. I feel like I was right there with you - except I am still warm and comfy in my recliner

Hey Linda, I miss warm - my fingers are still de-frosting after 3 days outdoors below freezing!! Probably am hard on these shots - they're just P & S snaps when it comes down to it (if you can't see let alone frame & focus!!). Boy was it ever fun though. Some more shots coming - some of the heroes at rest & at work.
I too think they tell the story just great!

You are being to hard on yourself. They’re not gallery shots but they’re well executed, especially for the conditions, and they’re fun. Very enjoyable to view.
This is clearly a must see event and the people are so colorful & crazy that it looks very exciting. Thanks for sharing the lovely images you took.

The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is the prime attraction... (
show quote)
I was going to put in three emoticons with their finger pointed up, but their clattering teeth would not let them move. I even told them to put mittens on their hands, but that didn't help.
So, Great Captures! Very well involved with the story of the day. Love the one with the dog.
Now, I have to warm up the emoticons!
<- Did manage to get a volunteer.
looks like fun. I flew for the Iditarod AirForce for several years back in the 80s. I enjoyed every minute of it. They did not have the reindeer run back then. Cold but so much fun. Especially out on the trail.
Really fun photos--thanks for letting us see the event
