Nikkormat EL - Free, you pay shipping

I have a Nikkormat EL body that a long time ago was one of my favorite cameras. Quite some time ago I had to send it in for repairs and was told it was not repairable. I do not remember what was wrong with it. It has been sitting in a closet since then (probably early 1980s). If you have any need or interest in it for parts or whatever, let me know. I will send it to you if you pay shipping.

I would love this! It is the same as my first camera, which was stolen years ago. What would shipping to 98503 cost?

jeweler53,

I'm sorry but someone slipped in ahead of you and I'm shipping it to him. I agree it was a great camera to use at the time. I suppose it is possible to refurbish this one but I can't do it.

If this falls through, I'll get back to you.

Jeweler,

The first guy dropped out when the FedEx cost turned out to be $27 to Tucson, AZ. If you are still interested, let me know. I’d have to go back to Fedex to see exactly what it would be to you. I’m in San Diego for reference.

A medium flat rate box from USPS would only be about $12. It is insured and trackable. In either case I will take it. Thank you very much. let me know how to send you the money.

Jeweler,

I’ll try to do that today or tomorrow. I’ll let you know when it is on the way. Please give me the address to which you would like it sent.

Richard,

I took the camera to the Post Office today. The small box was too small and the medium box was too big. They said if I wrapped it, it would ship for about the same $12. I'll try to get it out tomorrow or Saturday. As for payment, I am happy to take a check. I have used PayPal to pay for things but I have no idea how I can receive money by PayPal. If it gets to be too hard, I'll eat the $12. I'm just glad someone will have one of my favorite cameras and may put it to good use. Should you refurbish it or use it in some other way, I would appreciate a picture of the end use or a story of what you did.

Thanks,

Scotty
p.s. If you send a check, my address is:

Richard,

The camera has been mailed. They say it should arrive on Monday. The total cost was $12.60. If it works, I will attach a photo of the receipt. Hope you get good use out of the Nikkormat.

FWIW, by far the common unrepairable
failure is the resistor ring around the
body flange. Such a failure renders it a
meterless but otherwise fully usable
camera. No AE, no manual meter. But
you'll still need the battery to run the
shutter on its manual settings.

For $50 I'll tell you where the battery
compartment is located.

I'm not reeeally THAT greedy.
For $5.00 I'll tell you that it's
underneath the mirror, in the
mirror box floor.

Please put the $5.00 in the
tip jar next time you enjoy a
little live music ;-)

The Camera arrived safely. It will soon be put on display with one of my vintage lenses mounted; probably the 35-105 f3.5.

Thanks again.

Richard,

I'm glad it will live on in a display. I'm sorry it was a little shelf-worn but I expect you were able to spiff it up some.

Richard,

Just received your kind payment for the Nikkormat EL. Thank you. I gather you are involved in playing live music. What is it you play or do? I have often visited my old college roommate in upstate Minnesota and we go to some spots where Jim Olsen plays guitar and sings. We have bought several of his CDs and tip well when we see him.

Your photo background is not dissimilar to mine although I started a little earlier. In grammar school and high school I just used a Kodak Brownie camera and took snapshots. When I graduate from Stanford in 1963, I joined the Navy submarine program (was an NROTC student). On my first ship, the CO assigned me as the Public Affairs Officer responsible for taking pictures and "promoting" the boat. He also had me locate and procure from Navy surplus several Speed Graphic 4X5 cameras and equipped them with polaroid type backs in some cases. So I enjoyed several years of 4X5 work in B&W. I also became the Photo Officer on the next two submarines because of my experience in the first one. We did our own developing and prepared special reports for our operations. Later while on Staff duty in Japan, I was, again, the Photo Officer in charge of the lab. We had several Hasselblads, Bronicas and other cameras. The CO wanted me to take and use the Hasselblads in order to become familiar with them. I rather liked them but could never afford them for myself. During our many trips to Asia, I managed to buy several Nikon cameras. Over the years I have had a Nikon F, a Photomic T, a Photomic FTn, the Nikkormat EL and an F4 before shifting to digital. I have worked my way up from the CoolPix 950 and then a D-70, D-200, D-300,D-800 and now my D-850. Over the last 20 years, I have been able to "justify" upgrading because my older son was following in my footsteps and kept needing a new, better camera - so he got the hand-me-downs. He now has his own D-500 which he used to take pictures for BMW and others at races, car shows and the like (although it is still just a hobby for him as well.) I am not very sophisticated in post processing but I do use the PS/LR subscription. I really enjoy photography but I could certainly benefit from some professional assistance in the processing. Many of the videos just don't answer enough questions for me.

At this point and at my age, I suspect the D-850 may be my last major camera. I have many lenses but am usually using my 24-70 f2.8 and the 28-300 zooms. I try to use the 105 macro lens on flowers and such but need to learn focus stacking and HDR processing to get better, I think.

If you get a chance, send me a shot of your collection if you have them displayed somewhere in your home.

Best regards and good shooting,

Scotty

Vocal work. Mostly for free, and just for fun. I am blessed with a very deep base voice, so even when there are "better singers" than me, I often get a shot at the part. Everything from Church solos to community and semi pro Choir work. I'v had the pleasure of working in half a dozen operas over the years as well as dozens of musicals. As I age, my voice isn't what it used to be. I am not the best a all the technology either A good shot, SOOC is just fine.

Thanks again,

Richard
