I am wanting to take very close close-up photos. Like the pistol or stamen of the flower or a bees knees. Yep that close!
I have a Nikon with a70-300macro lens and a 55-300 zoom lens but they won't focus for that close up of photo. What am I doing wrong and what type of lens do I need to achieve these close up photos?
Thanks chiatt

I suspect you want to locate a "macro" sub forum on this site if there is on.

Although the lenses you mentioned may say Macro on them, they are very likely not real 1:1 lifesize macro, as you may be looking for. Macro is rather specialized in many ways, as in real lens focus at a 1:1 lifesize, lighting for macro... likely a ring light flash unit, and many other photo treatments.

Pick up a book at the photo section on macro or closeup photography or head for the macro section of this site. Someone will surely come along and point you in the proper direction here on UHH.

I know what it is, but I don't do it.

An example would help.

I have a tameron 90 mm macro 1 to 1 that I used in dentistry for photos of teeth for shape and color matches for cosmetics. I also have a ring flash. Great combo. Not cheap but amazing results

What about extension tubes https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/375102-REG/Kenko_AEXTUBEDGC_Auto_Extension_Tube_Set.html/?ap=y&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7fvfwNHo4AIVDz0MCh18QAkLEAQYASABEgINb_D_BwE&lsft=BI%3A514&smp=Y

(not to be confused with tele 1.4 or 2x ) or close up filters to thread onto the front of your lens?

Welcome to UHH chiatt, glad you joined us. As already suggested take your question to the macro group. Many fine macro photographers there.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

You need a macro lens, if you want to get that close, what you have are mid-to short-tele-lenses, they are no good for that!
