I have the Series 3 with an add-on optional center column. The column is very stout and raising it 4 or 5 inches does not affect the stability AT ALL. In fact, the only time I need to raise it higher than that is when I'm doing "air show" photography with planes and jets in the air and since I'm panning with the lens and it's moving anyway, being totally vibration free doesn't matter one bit. The lens is moving anyway.

I currently own what I would consider to be a medium-sized CF tripod; however, I am 6'6" tall and when using my tripod, I have to extend the single middle section of the tripod to get enough height for me to comfortably view my subject. I really don't want to break the bank for a tripod but I do need something taller that won't require extending that center section which causes stabilization issues. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

This is an excellent budget priced tripod that should fill the bill...

Search Gene51. He has quite a few posts on tripods. He understands physics and vibration.

I have a RRS 34L that is in spotless condition that has never been used outdoors. Current retail is $1160. I am willing to sell for $850. I am a lot shorter than OP and want to go with a shorter RRS tripod. You may back channel me by text at 503-791-0650.

Thanks so much for the response. I shoot the D500 with the Tamron 150-600mm G2 and I use a gimbal. What I have now is just too short and I have to use the center segment in order to get the height I need due to my height (6'6") and in doing so, I get camera shake. Now lately my shutter speed is high enough to overcome that but I don't want to rely on shutter speed to correct equipment issues.

Either the Nest NT-404CT which is supposedly available from Camera Cottage, or the LeoFoto will provide the stability and height you need without needing a center column. The question about Nest is that Camera Cottage's website is either poorly organized or just doesn't list it. Both tripods are between $500 and $600.

I picked up the Benro extra long Series 4 Mach3 from B&H. Rated for 44# load 82" off the ground. It's a big, heavy duty carbon fiber unit that supports my gimbal, D500, & 150-600 Tamron. I love the unit. As you might expect, it's not particularly lightweight but it feels solid, even when extended. I can change my head's by using RRS clamps & mounts in about 20 seconds.

Oh do I agree with you on this one. I love this tripod. I’m 6’3”+ and don’t have to extend the legs all the way for my height, and I don’t even use the center column. It comes with a short center column you can use if you prefer. There have been a couple of really good reviews of this on YouTube. It comes well accessorized and is sturdy and well built...and it’s reasonably priced for a carbon fiber tripod.

Sure you can, from the home page. In the desktop view the menu is across the top. From the tablet view the menu is the three bars, top right. From either select .... tripod.

I just normally use Google as a first choice.

Agreed. I have the Benro Mach3 (aluminum) and it should fit your height requirement.

I have a Leofoto 404 with the optional center coulmn. It is a HD tripod and is great for tall people as it is about 6'2" with the column all the way down and over 7' when extended all the way (and damn stable even when fully extended). Similar tripods from the name brands are in the $1500 range
