All you are looking for is a mild acid - vinegar, lemon, carbonated water, OR sugar....so Cola will also work. (They leave old car body work parts in molasses and water for a week or two and it removes rust without damaging !)

In the microwave boil a cup full of water and a little lemon juice. It is all you need to get rid of the smell of curry. Cola on oven trays and roasting tins and soak overnight.

Knew there was a use for cola.

Acid not required, steam (from plain water) works perfectly.
Don't need to kill anything, as it won't survive the RF radiation (microwaves).

I found the best way to clean the microwave is to always cover the food when cooking. Clean up is a breeze when you don't make a mess to begin with.

Saw this advertised on a news feed titled “five kitchen devices on sale this weekend”. It’s supposed to make it easier to clean your microwave. Put a solution of vinegar and water in the device and microwave for, I think, about 5-7 min. Presumably, the interior will then easily wipe clean. Sounds intriguing, but but have not read anywhere about effectiveness. Also, wonder about long term effects, if any, on the microwave. Dozens listed for sale on eBay. Most have positive record of 95-96% and very low sales record.
Comments, anyone?

I use inexpensive plastic covers (Nordicware) from Wallyworld. They work very well and can be tossed in the dishwasher as needed. Haven’t had to clean my microwave in a long time.

Someone saw a need that doesn't exist and is trying to make money on it.
