How many RAW photos from a 24MP sensor can you store per gig on an SD card. How about JPEG photos? And is it directly proportional if you have a 16MP sensor instead of a 24? Another variable might be brand of card and if they differ on their storage technology. Would like to hear from the techno geeks. Thanks.
This information is usually in your camera manual.

Thanks. I’ll take a look.
Depends on:
- The make of the card (yes, it can vary between manufacturers)
- The make of the camera (yes, file sizes vary slightly between different cameras)
- The compression you choose
An easy test: insert a card, switch on your camera, select RAW, and look at what the camera says you have room for.
HTH, Mon Freré!

Richard is right: the operative word being "usually." Some manufacturers do not include it. My Canon cameras have always seemed to have that in the guide.
Actually, on my Nikons the number (approx.) of images the card will hold/the camera can take on that card is displayed on the LCD info panel on top of the camera. Change from RAW to JPG and you will see the number change.
How about the size of the card (GB) divided by the size of the files (MB) for a rough idea?
Really?
Insert the card in your camera and the display will tell you how many images you can store. It changes depending on the format selected, JPG, raw compressed or not and TIFF if available.
As to how many the generic answer does not depend on the manufacturer or type of card but on the size of the card.

At least calculable to the size card in question.

My camera does.
Second comment is 100% true. 16Gb is 16Gb no matter who makes it.

Just look at the top LCD on your camera (or rear info screen bottom right corner), the [rXX] number tells you the shots remaing on the card at your current setting. Use a blank card, set to shoot RAW, and you will know exactly!

It's also generally found on the camera read-out on top when you insert the card.
Using the info screen lower right corner works on the D500 and D850. However, the top display may or may not display the count depending upon the D3 setting being set to ISO or Frame Count.
