My Windows 7 64 bit sys. will no longer connect to my Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED scanner, so Hogger-help
is needed to resolve the problem. Tried re-running the old software, but it doesn't work anymore.

I had to hold on to an old laptop running Win7 in order to run my older flatbed scanner.

Have you looked at Nikon's scanner page to see if they have updated software?

Vuescan software will run with over 2000 different models of scanner. Silverfast works with nearly 400.
But if Nikon has newer software that might be your best bet.

I just checked Nikon's software site, the 5000's latest software only goes up to XP.
I also checked and both Vuescan and Silverfast will run the 5000.

Try VueScan and/or SilverFast software. Both support the Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED.

Something that may work for you. I have the Konica Minolta Dual Scan IV and was in the same situation. I down load Vue Scan and then install the Minolta software and the Minolta software works using the Vue Scan driver.
One thing it doesn't do is to allow me to scan directly into PS. I had to save as TIFF then open the TIFF in PS.
So for you, you can install Vue Scan and then the Nikon software as well and try that.

I had the same problem with my Minolta film scanner. The software to run the old hardware simply will not run on the new operating systems. I hound the solution is to have a pc or laptop that was never updated to the new OS. I still run the old software on my XP system....

I am using the Nikon Coolscan III SCSI interface on my windows 7 computer (i5) with Vuescan 32bit version as Nikon's software is only 32bit. this gives excellent results.

There is a fellow on eBay who buys, rebuilds and resells all the Coolscan scanners. He knows all the hacks for the Nikon software. His user ID on eBay is nikon_coolscan.

His best advice to me was Vuescan software. Worked just fine.

He also offers service and rebuilding.

Sometimes the computer tries to print to an older devise that no longer exists and you need to go into the windows tools to reassign the printer or scanner to it. I use both Windows 7 & 10 systems with a HP printer and that has occurred once as I recall. I even had to reassign the photo paper being printed as well because they are vastly different and will not do well if improperly addressed.

You may have to reload your scanner's software possibly. Sorry I wish I knew more to help you. Good luck.

Beware of Vuescan and this guy Hamrick who runs it. He has not been responsive to me when I had issues with his software. Consequently my Nikon scanner has been sitting unused for two years.

Siverfast software will cost you over $400.

Ed Hamrick helped me out when I had trouble with my Nikon Coolscan III.
He advised me to use the 32 bit version of Vuescan as Nikon's software is 32 Bit.

Is there a newer film scanner available today? Not a flat bed scanner.
