Does anyone have experience with Canon EOS RP? I’m having trouble finding an impartial review. I know Sony is the mirrorless of choice, but I have a collection of Canon lenses I’d like to utilize if I migrate from Canon 7D to mirrorless ...

A friend of mine just ordered hers from B&H. She should have it Monday. I think they were just released so give it some time.

Too new at this time.Give it another month. Also, watch for a review at DPReview or Image Resources.

SONY is not the mirrorless of choice. They will fall behind quickly now that Canon and Nikon are in the game.

You don't trust Ken Rockwell's hands-on and lengthy and detailed review? And since when (ever) did UHH members provide anything resembling brand-agnostic feedback?

A friend of mine has the newest Canon mirrorless out on the market and absolutely loves it. However , he still feels his photos are no better then if he was shooting his 6D Mark ii full frame. He bought the adapters and the only lens that I know was giving him trouble were some of the longer Tamron focal lengths. Th eonly reason he bought it was because in his travels he is often turned around being told no professional cameras, since the mirrorless is smaller and more compact they don't hassle as much.

Have a look at the images in the Rockwell review. The excitement isn't the camera / sensor so much as the new lens options, insanely sharp wide open at insanely wide apertures.

Very few people will have the EOS RP yet... it's just been announced, has only just arrived in stores and started shipping out.

It's basically a scaled-down version of the EOS R, though.... the R is 30MP, the RP is 26MP. The R has more AF points, though they both have A LOT and cover nearly the entire image area. Ther RP uses a smaller battery and is the smallest lightest full frame mirrorless camera, but also makes relatively few images per battery charge. It's rated for something less than 300 shots per charge, and there doesn't appear to be a battery grip planned for it (one is avail. for the R, doubling it's battery capacity and shots it can take).

Do you have EF lenses... or EF-S... or both? If EF-S, you might consider the Canon M5 or M50 mirrorless instead. Those are APS-C models, same as your 7D (except they are both 24MP, while your 7D is 18MP).

To use the DSLR lenses on any of the Canon mirrorless requires an adapter.

There are also adapters that allow using Canon lenses on Sony mirrorless. I'm not sure if the auto focus performance is effected. According to Canon, AF is just as good when their lenses are adapter for use on their mirrorless cameras.

Mine is being delivered his morning.

Sadly I’m neither an expert or competent reviewer just a hobbyist looking for a lighter 6D Mk1 with a few extra bells and whistles.

I ordered Canon RP (full frame), with the RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS Lens, and With "Free Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R" (to back-fit your existing Canon Lens) and "Free Free Canon Extension Grip! Choose your color" (who cares) yesterday (2019.02.28) the second day that they were in stock at Adorama. I ordered it for overnight delivery, however, we awoke to 2" of snow this a.m., ugh.

I am kind of a Sony fan, but if you have Canon glass, then odds are that you will like the Canon RP better than any of the current Sony full-frame cameras.

The Canon is smaller and lighter, and quite a bit cheaper. The Canon will drive your existing lenses noticeably faster (than using Canon glass on a Sony), and most Canon users prefer the Canon "color signature" to Sony.

The only thing you are giving up by not using Sony is that Sony's eye-Autofocus is better than Canon's. People will argue endlessly about "how much better", but that largely depends on the situation. If you are using Canon glass, I suspect the eye-autofocus on the Canon will work better.

The Sony cameras also have some pretty good weatherproofing that the RP does not. If you need serious weatherproofing for either camera, though, I suggest getting one of those plastic "waterproof" bags.

People argue about the video features endlessly, so if one video feature is important to you, then you have to ask. If no single video feature is particularly important to you, then Canon and Sony are about the same.

I would add that if you use an electronic gimbal, though, then you might do better with whichever camera/lens combo is smaller, since gimbals have weight limits....
