A great start for sure. Will be looking forward...

Played around with the auto tracking feature...put the center focus spot on the subject, hold the shutter down and the camera stays locked on as long as the subject is in the frame.

Eye tracking and switching left or rights work flawlessly. I'm gobsmacked! If the A7R3 firmware upgrade is as good I'll be double gobsmacked. I'm loving it already.

Meanwhile I'll be shooting jpgs with the 6400 until COFS is updated. Actually they are surprisingly good without any effort.

Happy Birthday. I have the 6500 and the A7111. At a recent photo conference, I was told by Sony that they will be coming out with 2 firmware updates in the next 6 months. They will improve the eye focus and will include eye focus on animals not just people. That got me excited, since I will be going to Africa with my 2 Sonys and several lenses.

Thanks Roni. Have a great trip...I'm green with envy

I am standing by for Sony to release more ASPC cameras. I like the IBIS of the A6500 and the Eye-Autofocus of the A6400, and I am disappointed that I can't buy an ASPC camera that has both.

They offer full-frame cameras with both, but the A7Riii doesn't make me happy like the little A6000 always did.

Knowing Sony, when they finally come out with an ASPC that has IBIS and full-time eye autofocus, it will be shaped like the A7Riii....

Thanks Dave for the comments.

I have the full frame Sony cameras. But have thought about adding the 6400 for use on the street.

I have enjoyed all of my Sony cameras. I had a a6000 when I decided to buy the a7RM3. Got rid of all the APS-C glass.
I grew up in south central Illinois. My Father loved photography and had many of his photos published in the Springfield paper in the 50's. BTW I'm a seasoned citizen also a septuagenarian.

Sounds impressive. So, do you think you can lock in on a chickadee sitting on a pirch and wait until it launches and hit the trigger and it'll catch a shot of the bIf before it leaves the frame?

That's asking a lot but we shall find out when the weather gets warmer. Its really cold here and will be for most of the week.

I'm suspect I'll be the weakest link in the process.

I noticed you are from Colorado...I lived in Sterling as a child.

Sony's problem isn't cameras. It's glass! Their cameras are wonderful but until they stop relying on third party lens makers and adapters they lost this loyal Sony user. They must add some affordability in their lens line and stop playing around with which camera gets ibis. Put it in all of them for God's sake already and produce some quality glass that doesn't require OSS. Geeeeez! Who's the head of product development over there? Seems like they don't have a clue. Just think of the great glass they could produce that doesn't require the cost of adding stabilization and put that cost into good, affordable quality lenses. Tgey would put the rest of them out of business. They need to become Olympus with an aps-c sensor! Sorry, that's my rant for the day! Happy Sunday all!

Have you used Sony's PlayMemories software to convert Raw to tiff? It's not real intuitive but works well for that.

You're sure right -- reaction time is the rub with the small birds that often don't fly very far but do so real fast. I have a lot of good tail feather shots.
Colorado - yes, came here 40 years ago, a fantastic place but a strange mix of people. It's 10* here and 5* in Sterling so not so much bird shooting going on here either.

They have a good line up on FF lenses. Not planning on getting any APS-C lenses. Sure they are not inexpensive but other manufacturers are not either. I paid $2700 for the Nikon 80-400 when it came out and there are more it that category.

I've used third party lenses and the latest from Tamron and Sigma are stellar at crop lens prices. Nothing stopping anyone from using them on their APS-C cameras.

I love my Sony lenses...they are among the best I have ever used.

I've never looked at PlayMemories, perhaps I should. I have so many programs on the computers I don't remember what I used.

I haven't use jpgs since my P&S days and I'm liking what I see. Still have some control in COFS just not as much. I think the camera does an excellent job with jpgs.

I'm shooting jpgs more and more with my 6500, in many cases just so I can use CIZ and double the focal length of whatever lens I'm using in a pinch. The 6500 does a pleasing job with jpgs, properly tweaked. Could be a lot worse.

Today is the anniversary of my birth. I won't reveal my age but I'm well into being a septuagenarian.

This morning I decided to treat myself and ordered the new Sony APS-C camera. I have been studying it and am intrigued by its focusing ability. I briefly owned the A6300 last year and really liked the extra resolution it provided over a similarly sized cropped image. There were other things that weren't to my liking so it went away.

I hope the A6400 lives up to the hype.

I now have used it several days. It still has many of the issue I didn't like about the A6300. The flip up screen and video capability mean nothing to me as I will likely never use them.

But the focusing and tracking are nothing short of awesome. Its a keeper and for me money well spent.
