This is a photo I took on February 2, 2019, of my best friend. She was a seemingly healthy 49 year old who started to have some stomach issues in October 2018. Long story short, she died this week of lung cancer. She had rapidly lost much weight during the last months. When this photo was taken, she was preparing for her family to come over for Super Bowl. She was not posing for me, but I saw what reminded me of the classic silhouette in a woman's cameo brooch. I grabbed my camera and took a few photos while she cleaned. The next time I saw her 2 weeks later, she was in a hospital bed, unable even to sit up on her own anymore. While many of her family who visited took photos of her then, I refused to. This is from the last time I took her photo and in her downcast eyes, I still see the love that radiated from them. Obviously edited.... to bring out the vision I saw that day...This is my Rita.

Very sorry for your loss but glad for your memories. Classy photograph!
Nice photo. Life is tough - all the way through.
I lost someone to lung cancer this past October so I understand your loss. I, like you, choose to remember the person she was rather than her last days. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, sometimes people forget that they are so much more than the diagnosis. I cry with you and celebrate the life of Rita. Thank you for sharing.
Nice processing on a photo that obviously means a lot to you.
There is nothing any of us can say that will lessen the pain from losing a loved one. I hope you, her family & other loved ones are able to find some peace. Nice shot of her that will likely make her memory seem all the more present.
Dang, sorry for your loss.
I’m sorry you lost her so soon. What a great memory you have of her here.

So true, she was a woman who blazed her own trail, who was not easily placed in a labelled box, ever. She lived by her own rules, and she loved ferociously.

The emotions of grief are strong now.. and raw.. and I know well they will subside some with time. Thank you.
