Wanted to shoot a wedding theme. I wanted the detail of my grandmother's wedding dress (circa late 1920's). On a whim, I included my other grandmother's wedding pearls. Applied some filters to bring out the texture and punch up the old vibe. The pearls aren't quite as sharp as I'd like, but other than that, I'd like to know what people think of these two.

I admire what you are trying to create but for me there is too much dead space lower right. Possibly a rose or a pendant in that area.

Nicely done. I prefer the first one

It's hard for my old eyes to be sure of focus without the downloads, but it appears from the jpegs that the focus on the pearls is a little soft. In both cases the blank, textured fabric area in the lower right corner needs more interest - an object, texture, more of the lace, or whatever. Or you could try cropping down a little (from the right in the top image, from the bottom in the second one). The lighting, exposure, and post processing are all excellent in my opinion.

Creative concept. Consider draping the pearls on the lace and crop in. My sense the catch on the pearls may be visyally attractive.?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the pearls are not sharp enough. In regards to the negative space lower right, that's the stock photographer in me coming out! "Always leave room for copy space". I guess it's kind of drilled in.

So, if I were to add another object - say a flower - should it be fresh or would a wilted flower be better?

Definitely going to reshoot this.

I get it. I actually was thinking of products that it would make a good advert for!

I think I'd try it with both wilted and fresh - You might get something that you hadn't pre-planned but was beautiful anyway.

The bigger question is whether the flower shoul be in a similar or complementary color. Red Rose? Yellow? Pink?

Studio shooting can be a lot of fun and produce great results, especially for those of us enduring winter in cold climates.

Aside from equestrian events, the occasional bird and the more occasional landscape, studio is pretty much what I do. It's difficult for me to get out and about for various reasons. I'm lucky to have a small space that I can leave permanently set up for my studio shoots. All small scale - nothing expansive at all, but it makes me some walking around money every month!

Hmmm, I'm thinking that I really like #2 as a cover/opening for this theme. The "dead space" seems perfect for the title. The "softness" seems to enhance the nostalgic aged look and brings in the"dreamy" side of romantic days-gone-by. Just IMHO.

I would have put the pearls peeking out from under the lace. Then they wouldn't be as likely to have their beauty blown out by the light.

Almost every response in your post interests me as alearner. Concerning the use of a flower in your composition, in my yard I have newly blossomed Helleborus whose texture and form would add beautifully.
