Really nice shots jlocke. Hockey is a really great game, I wished I had more time to go and maybe shoot some. I think these are just a little underexposed but I don't know what it would look like at 1/640 and maybe ISO 4000 or higher. Also maybe shoot a little tighter on some but these are great. Post more when you can. Thanks
Tom

Jlocke these are really good! These have come a very long way from the ones you first posted. I am sure the boys are loving them. Tom is right some are a little under exposed but not much you can do about it while shooting. Most will have to be corrected in post. The problem is rinks are so unevenly lit the areas closests to the boards are usually the darkest and your not getting the benefit of reflected light off the ice. If you set your exposure for those areas you risk shots further away being over exposed. Auto ISO gives you other challenges. Get too much ice or boards in the frame and you run the risk of under exposing. Really the only thing to do is tweak them in post processing. These are not too far off that you could even adjust them if they were jpg’s I am guessing 1/2 to 1 stop would do it. Great images!
Good action shots John!!

Thanks for all the encouraging and helpful comments. I can see now where some of the shots DO look slightly underexposed; I think when processing these I get sensitive to not blowing out the whites (with all the ice) and get too conservative. But you can definitely see they are a bit dark when next to some of the others. I'll go back and fix that in Lightroom.
This was the "maiden voyage" for my newly-acquired D7200; I have given the D7000 to my wife to use. I had read that the D7200 had much better low-light capabilities, as well as a higher overall pixel count. I'm satisfied with the way these came out at ISO 3200; they required less noise reduction than the D7000 shooting at ISO 2000. I feel confident that I can push it a little higher next time, and maybe cut the shutter speed a tad more, as tshift suggested.
I upgraded my Flickr account to "pro" so I could put all the images up there and make them available for the team to download.

Your getting there. What I would do is up the shutter to at least 1/800 up the iso to maintain and of course shoot wide open. Your over exposed in my opinion, your either getting camera shake, or to low a shutter speed. Not quite sharp. You have no trouble with a higher iso, don't be afraid of it. Shoot tight, wait for the action to come to you. Get it right in the camera. Practice before the game starts. Get to the game early, get familiar with the lighting.
Good luck and lookin good.
