Try cropping out the two people on the left. It would make the cute little girl really stand out and define her as the subject.

I know what you're saying but some context would be lost even if you switched to portrait orientation. In any event, she's a sweetie and I didn't have any trouble finding her smile. Well done!

I like both versions but they tell totally different stories! It is according to the story you are trying to tell. I would say though that the single little girl does not appear to be the subject of either version. Only after looking at them for a bit are your eyes drawn to her with her interesting expression.
