In the most magical part of the Scottish Highlands sits Rannock Moor, and at the northern end of the moor is the mighty Glencoe, with is legions, massacres and murderous history it dwarfs its surroundings and always lives up to its magnificent reputation.

The Massacre of Glencoe (Scottish Gaelic: Mort Ghlinne Comhann) took place in Glen Coe in the Highlands of Scotland on 13 February 1692, following the Jacobite uprising of 1689-92. An estimated 30 members and associates of Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by government forces billeted with them, on the grounds they had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, William III of England and II of Scotland and Mary II.

This is truly exquisite, Geoff, just beautiful. As a history buff, I enjoy your narratives as well.

Thanks Rob, This really is a massive part of Scottish history, up there with Culloden and Bannock Burn, and still causes distrust among the Campbells and McDonald's clans.

This is a stunning image! I detect a little horizon tilt, which is easily corrected.
