This E-M1X has broken some barriers, has it not? … How long do you think it will be before Panny follows suit
… what about Canikon? … Sony? … Pentax? … Fuji? … When will AI become part of the "General Mass" ????

Is this really artificial intelligence or just expanding on face detection, eye detection, and using color information like Nikon's 3D tracking mode? Olympus describes it as adaptive autofocus.

E-M1X specs:
Autofocus: Adaptive and expandable focal points. Two examples. If you are shooting a person, then shift to shooting a car, the number of focal points will automatically expand. If you are shooting a basketball player, you will get a vertical series of 5 focal points.

It's a little more than that, CO … if you're shooting a BIF - the camera will SENSE that, compare it to other birds in its memory, and will expand (or compress) its AF coverage, accordingly. If you are shooting a car race - it will zero in on the Car Driver's helmet, and stay with it, no matter how many obstructions get in the way. Same deal with a Baseball, Soccer Ball, Basketball, Football … it will ALWAYS - follow the ball …

Yes, but you are describing, here - adaptive AF, not AI, CO. There are TWO processors, to handle AI tasks. There's another for AF, and yet, another - for AE. This is why, it's both larger and heavier than the E-M1 II. It's also why, it costs a thousand more than the E-M1 II. Adaptive AF, is an offshoot of AI. But, AI - is completely new to the Oly line. There is also an extension to 50MP - as required. This can only be done w/ AI

Doesn't AI require the ability to learn? IBM's AlphaZero, knowing just basic rules, taught itself chess in four hours. In 24 hours it achieved a superhuman level of play.

Hi Chris! You asked in the other thread if Olympus blew it and I didn't know but with the AI I think they did blow it!

According to Olympus development folks the Deep Learning technology was developed on high speed computers and the resulting algorithms were then transferred to the camera from the computer. Dual processors were required as a LOT of computing power is required. According to them this technology will filter down to other models depending upon the processing power available in those models. As before, Power to the Processor.

A lot of cameras can do that, one can set up the Canon 5D MIII to do the same thing for example!

Yes, it does. And the E-M1X WILL learn - from how you shoot, and what you shoot … and store the AF info - for the next time it sees/senses - you are shooting the same thing. Kinda like the AlphaZero … no, CO?

I wrote that Topic Title, after reading several reviews of the E-M1X - in which the commenters were quite uncomfortable with a camera which was so much bigger and heavier than the E-M1 II - a camera which most thought was pretty near perfect - in part, because of its ultra-small size, first of all, and capabilities.

Bebu … did you actually BUY the new E-M1X? … If not - how would you KNOW they blew it?

None, whatsoever, Richard … but, I've been poisoning my brain with various write-ups, for the past few days - along with Detail Sheets on the E-M1X - from the horse's mouth, and I'm brimming over with oats!!!

Thanks, Bob .. that sounds more like it's akin to the IBM Super-Computer referenced in the above post - huh?

S … I don't believe the 5D3 has AI … so, tell me - what does it do - exactly?

When you try to make the camera smart you blew it. That's all. Who is buying the M1-X? In fact if I buy it then they didn't blow it.
