I was feeling sorry for myself since I couldn't take my dog Ted with me on a hike to check on one of my camera traps (he had hip surgery and can't do much for a while). I really DON'T like hiking without his watchful company, so I quickly swapped out the SD card in the camera, made a few adjustments, and headed downhill to re-cross the nearby creek. Then I saw this one ice-covered boulder which had the most intriguing formations on it, so I spent twenty minutes or so photographing it from different angles. I got a hinky feeling about being crouched by a noisy stream, knowing that lions like to stalk deer along them, and I wrapped up my session and came home.
The haul from the camera trap was a near bust: After three weeks there were only two videos. The first was triggered by the shadow of a tree being blown by the wind. The second one showed a lion sauntering carelessly by and on up a rocky gully.

Very interesting shots. When you mentioned a lion, I assume you were talking about a mountain lion. Where are you located?

Yes, I'm sorry, a mountain lion. I live in the southwestern corner of New Mexico, which is why I get jazzed over ice formations in streams.

Thank you for looking, and please thank your guys from me and Ted. I wish they could talk some sense into him! Although he is free from pain in that hip joint (since he no longer has the joint), he seems to consider himself an amputee and will not even try to use the leg...not good in a larger dog with arthritis in all his other joints! His vet pronounced him "the biggest weenie I've ever known."

I'll bet you were excited finding ice in SW New Mexico. #1 is a super shot. The texture in the ice is magnificent viewed at full resolution. The sparkles are nice too. This would be a large wall hanger in any number of offices.

Thanks! I like the first one best too. I live in a mountainous area and so ice is not the rarity you'd think, though snow is becoming so. But there are years when it's either too dry or too warm or both, so I'm happy for some actual winter this year. I really appreciate your comments.
