Take your Fuji; in particular, get yourself an 18mm F2 XF lens for the XT2; that lens is a real sleeper- I was in the camera store, where I have been visiting for over 30 years; the boss knows me well; he said "do yourself a favour, use this lens on your Fuji; and showed me the 18mm. That lens is probably the best landscape lens going !

Take the Fuji. Do you really need more than 300mm (Fuji 55-200 full frame equivalent)? How many shots do you really think you’re going to lose because you didn’t shoot at 500mm?

On the wide angle end, if you’re going after next month (March), pick up the newly announced Fuji 16mm F 2.8 lens. It’s $399 ... as opposed to $599 for the 18mm F 2 lens. It’s weather sealed (the 18mm is not), and only weighs 5 ounces! After this lens starts shipping next month, I doubt you’ll ever see anyone buy a new Fuji 18mm lens again.

Regardless of which system you take, HAVE FUN!

I use Olympus cameras with Olympus and Panasonic lenses, not Fuji. Mirrorless cameras are very convenient and they have excellent quality. Since I am not familiar with the lenses you own I cannot make any comments but I can say that the camera or lens is not more important then the photographer. If you do your part any of those two cameras will do fine.
To give you an example, I am planning to visit Yosemite in May. I will take my Olympus with a couple of lenses. I will travel light and I am confident that I will come back with excellent images if I do not fail to do my part.

IMHO, the Fuji with the 18-55 and 55-200 will serve you well. Like you, I am over 80 years old and no longer use my Canon 5DIII and assorted “L” Series lenses. Now I use two Fuji X-T2 bodies with those two lenses mounted. With Fuji’s film simulations (I use Velvia for landscapes) and the EVF showing any Exposure Compensation you dial in, results are spectacular. With the Canon, I shoot RAW but the Fuji jpegs are so colorful needn’t bother with RAW. Also Fuji has Lens Modular Optimization to make lens corrections in camera in the jpeg.
Good shooting; enjoy your trip.

I am biased and I would say Nikon D800. Have that camra and love what it produces. If you have a weight issue use a Monopod.

Well I am biased and I have both a Nikon 610 and a Fuji X-t2. And I would much prefer the Fuji for a travel camera with the 18-55. I would probably also want to bring a bit longer lens for the occasional Bison or other distant wildlife I encounter. The Fuji will give you perfectly wonderful scenics you can blow up as large as you like - because the lenses are so good - very little aberration.

Nigel Danson did a vlog about a year ago comparing his Nikon D810 and Fujifilm XT-2. It provides a good print comparison for landscape photography if you are interested.

The Fuji appeals because of bulk and weight issues (I’m 80+ years old) while the Nikon appeals as a full frame option which would be best for scenics. Opinions gratefully received.

Everyone here has a built-in bias regarding a query such as this. It is a bit like Ford vs. Chevy. Having said this, you have already answered your own question... Do what will make YOU happy, not "us."

Cheers!

Take the Fuji...if you need larger images, take several shots of the scene and merge them together in lightroom or photoshop.

Fuji wins. Multiple film simulations in one shot, 425 focus points, programable to your personal needs, less weight and cost less with a lot more functional than Nikon. I got rid of my Nikon equipment long a go when I did weddings and portraits.

I also was a dedicated Nikon d800 series shooter. I now primarily shoot with my Fuji x-t20 and x t3. I love the weight and the glass is very sharp from corner to corner. I still use my Nikon for Astro and low light situations but I am learning to love my Fuji more and more everyday

Hi I’m sure either system would serve you well; however I also bought a Fujifilm system for weight reduction and liked the look but mostly how well & easy it worked.
I have Fujifilm’s 100 - 400mm zoom lens & love it!! It is heavier & bulkier than the others but as a long zoom its very good.

Enjoy your trip and be well.

Best,
Bart

I think that about 9 out of 10 people who have used Nikons and Canons for many years and then discovered Fuji, still have a body or two, but they are gathering dust on a shelf or are in a bag or box somewhere "safe". The Fuji is the one they reach for to "take pictures". And it is not the weight or the size, even though those are appreciated, it is the ease of use. The Fuji cooperates with you. And the results are predictable and reliable. It is just an elegant, well thought out machine.

Seriously....you will enjoy your trip a lot more if you take lighter and smaller equipment. Your photo's will not suffer any by using the XT2.
