Yes, I remember those cards. I guess the DIY electronics community has to shop online now. It was nice being able to walk in and then walk out with almost any electronic component I wanted.

Yes, Jerry. And occasionally you even paid for it!

YAMAHAs - are my main power output devices in BOTH my LR AND in my BR, Bill … so, yes, I guess you could say that. Yammies was termed by Will in his responses to mine, so I guess I just caught on … okay?

My dad's first computer was a TSR-80 (I think) Maybe TRS-80? Anyway a tablet could run rings around it now. He usually would shop at Radio Shack for components. He was an Electronics Engineer. Now if I need something in that line I can still go to Fry's in Anaheim.

And Alan Myers refers to Sigma lenses as Siggies, and Tamron glass as Tammies, Bill … so … ???

I've no idea what the Dutch wear to bed, but, I'd expect it'd be more likely to be Holland-aise …

In 1962 Radio Shack was facing bankruptcy when Charles Tandy (Tandy leather) stepped in and purchased the company. Under Mr Tandy’s guidance the company prospered. Mr Tandy passed away in the late 70’s and things began to change for both Radio Shack and Tandy Leather. For the worst. A series of bad decisions and acquisitions lead to the corporation selling its leather craft business to the Leather Factory corp. in the late 1990’s or early 2000’s, which company then wisely adopted the Tandy name because of its brand recognition. That company is currently doing well. Somewhere along the line the Tandy Corp. changed its corporate name to RadioShack Corp. I can only guess at this next but it seems they kept the same leaders with their same business practices.
Full disclosure. :) After my hitch in the Navy was over in 1960 I started my working career with Lafayette Radio and my last corporate employment as a manager for Tandy Leather. Before the sell off.

The original Radio Shack in Boston was a great source of ham radio equipment and other electronics. Then they got into Hi Fi. Around 1958 Consumer Reports gave their electrostatic supertweeter its highest rating, and my wife and I drove to Boston from New York to buy a pair. When RS rapidly expanded, then got into computers and cell phones, they seem to have lost their focus, and things went steadily downhill. Sad.

My mother also made me take a typing class in high school (circa 1969). I was the only guy in the class and pretty self conscious most of the time. All things considered, typing/keyboarding was, by far, the most useful manual skill I ever learned.

My Mom was a medical transcriptionist and court reporter, and taught me to type when I was 8. Without a doubt, it made my life easier in high school, college, and the business world.
