Also make sure that the camera has not inadvertently gotten into Continuous focus mode
That can also look like auto focus isn't working.

It also appears the CPI has quit as the S and P modes don’t work. I think the lens is dead

Everything is where it should be. I’m thinking it’s just dead. Works fine in full manual and the glass is good. Sounds like I need to get a new lens. 😃

That lens is a mechanical screw drive AF. Are tour other lenses AFS? The in-camera focus motor may have failed.
I would try it on another DSLR body to complete the diagnosis. But I tend to think the lens is fine.

The OP states that the lens focuses fine on a different body. That implies a problem with the camera...either a setup problem or a camera hardware problem as stated by MT Shooter.

I think this thread may be haunted...another inadvertent duplicate post.

What about having a technician checking camera and lens?

The camera is fine. As I said all my other auto focus lenses are fine. I think the CPI is dead because in S & P modes the lens isn’t recognized

That makes no sense as you stated it works fine on your F100.

What can I say. The D750 fails to recognize this lens but all my others are fine
