Forgot to add...the Edelkrone unit appears to be priced VERY attractively for the quality of product you receive. Google "Arca Swiss Ball Head," then tell me how overpriced you think the Edelkrone product is.

Has anyone tried one of the "Z" shaped tripod heads?
If so, what do you think?

I never heard of Z shaped tripod heads, or what that shape is suppose to accomplish!

Since vibration is the big issue with tripods, I am thinking it will negatively affect the vibration dampening of the tripod.

Maybe the Custom Brackets PRO-SV bracket would be a good alternative. I haven't used one but it seems to have two posts to prevent camera rotation. You would mount the camera and then turn the screw in the base to pull the camera up to the two posts.

Do you know what the max. weight rating is for this set up?

Don

I bought one. Not worth even a low price. Won't hold my 5d4 with a 24-105mm without tipping or folding.

I just ordered 2 of them after the price was REDUCED so low that I had to given them a try. Right now both of my tripods have Manfrotto ball heads with Arca-Swiss clamps PM me in a few weeks and I’ll let you know what I think.

So the two units arrived today. I have not mounted them on a tripod yet or used with any camera - BUT - my initial assessment is that it is poorly designed and not well made. Shipping was fast, though. Not worth anywhere near what I paid, and I don't think they are returnable. "A fool and his money are soon parted". "If it seems to be too good to be true..." Take a look at Platypod and some of its knockoffs. They do, essentially, what the Z shaped tripod does, but they do it using your choice of ball head. Other than the ball head, there are no moving parts. The Platypod is much more expensive than the Z heads, but it works.

Carl, Using “Quote Reply” helps us know which post you are addressing.
I’m assuming your talking about the Custom Bracket?
Expensive, but the Rolls Royce of brackets. I’ve had 2 of them.
It’s like a jewel!
