Probably not much, but timing is more important.
I sometimes purposely move the camera during a long exposure to get a ghost image with the subject, but I always use first curtain sync. (In the case below, I had no choice. The RB67 has a leaf shutter)

Have a great evening...

thanks for the example at the bean. I"m back from my sons surprise engagement shoot. I will post a couple of photos. I'm happy to say they turned out better than I had expected.

I only had about 15 minutes to survey the area, choose my settings and get hidden for the surprise one. I had a monopod with a Godox AD200 and magmod grid and sphere. My lighting person had never done it before so had to repeat a few times what his job was (he was a friend of my sons) I did not choose the spot until after and then posed them under the bean which was where I would have done the proposal in the first place. I only had my 70-200 with me as I had been told I would need to be quite a ways from them to shoot Sure wish I had my wide angle lens for the one under the bean.

Nice work.
I’ll assume she said “yes”!

Using flash near the Bean can be tricky with lots of reflection that you may not want. You could probably do well with your 24-70 and not really need the long lens. It may be crowded on weekend nights. Enjoy your event!

You could do well to read other posts, particularly the one from the OP who just posted the photos she shot of the event.

These are great photos. Well done Dianna.

The reason they turned out better than you expected IMHO, is you doubted yourself.....as you see now you should not have. As you did I asked questions here, it is always good to get other opinions when doing something different or out of our comfort zone. Looks like you were in your comfort zone. You are a good photographer.

Your 24-70 might have gotten you the Bean, but your shots are great. I have gotten to love my 18-140.

I just did an event like I had never done before and did the same thing (doubted myself), but I still got some good shots. What we need to do is just survey the lighting and set accordingly.

thanks Frank, yes I doubted myself because I was so nervous and wanted to do a great job for my son. I have another photo I thought you'd find interesting. I've learned how to do Montages so I created one of some of the images of that night.

That’s going to be a nice keepsake for them!
