Micro SD Card Write

Have you ever heard of a micro SD card being write-protected? That's the message I'm getting when I try to add some files to two different Sandisk 32GB cards. I tried three or four different micro card holders, and I get the same response from each one. I used a third micro SD card, and it worked fine. The next step will be to try to format them, but I doubt that will work if the computer thinks they are write-protected.

Until you mentioned it, it isn't something I ever thought about. Good to know if the problem ever happens.

I'm not aware of a write protect switch on the micro, only the adapters.

Right, and Sandisk offers two cures: set the locking switch to Unlock, and toggle the switch back and forth. They have a form to fill out to return the card, and they want me to take a picture of both sides, with the S/N readable. That's not going to be possible without a macro setup.

Two 64GB cards are behaving this way, but my others work fine. It's just odd that they both malfunctioned at the same time. I can't even format them.

Right, and I need "Solution 3."

I found Solution 3. Let the problem solve itself.

I went back to the computer a few hours later, still playing around with several Micro SD cards and Kindles, and I realized that I was adding files to, and removing them from, the two cards that had previously acted as if they were write-protected. In other words, waiting a couple of hours solved the problem. I didn't restart the computer or do anything else that would have made a difference, but now all my little SD cards work as they should.

I bet no one in the computer world can offer a valid explanation for why these two micro SD cards would say they were write-protected and then act the way they should a few hours later. I had tried four different micro adapters and inserted them into several different SD slots, with the same "write-protect" message.

I've seen a lot of self-correcting problems with all my years in electronics. Yup, no explanation other than "AF" (auto-fix)...
