When Fujifilm developed their EBC coating in the late 60's and 70's they literally walked away with top honors for lens sharpness and have only gotten better. When I switched to Fuji medium format, i literally got rid of all my lenses that weren't Fujifilm and weren't EBC coated.
The problem with third party for Fuji is that I suspect no one can compete with EBC. The market is filled with adaptors and legacy lenses that work with Fuji mount for XF and Xc. The best and sharpest lenses I have used on Fuji have been Konica Hexanon. Closest in sharpness to Fuji's EBC sharpness and cheap at under $100 (plentiful on eBay)
Don't need any other players in the market if you ask me... OK you didn't.

maybe "didn't" ~ but, I'm very pleased to see your informative post, here, Kuzano. And, I'm still pleased with the Konica Hexanon I acquired from you (though I'm still learning it...yeah I'm a bit slow).
Yes, I am about to make a run on eBay for some more Hexanon glass. Since Fuji broke through the 20 Megapixel barrier to 24 MP and 26 MP and are now producing both X-Trans and Bayer in the small camera's..(X-E3 and X-A5) My interest is piqued even higher.
I hear the Hexanon 57 f1.4 is serious competition for the Fuji 56 f1.2 for only a bit over $100, I know where I am headed. In addition there is a Hexanon 57 f1.2 for around $300 average which can knock out the Fuji 56 f1.2 although manual focus. The Fuji choice for the 56 AF at f1.2 is over $600.
As you might note. I often buy the Hexanon alternatives before paying Fuji EBC prices, but I know the EBC Fuji glass will always outshoot third party glass even if it is AF.
Looking right now at the 24 Mp XE-3, with the Hexanon 57 f1.4 for cheap, and finding the
X-trans and Bayer Fuji's quite comparable to each other. Also, the XT100 is a reasonable option and within range pricewise. The XT100 uses the Bayer Sensor, while the X-E3 is X-Trans. The playing field on post processing the bayer and the X-trans has leveled the field greatly. So the 24 Mp APS-c is the motivating factor for me now.
I switched to Sony A series for the 24MP for two weeks. I'm back Fujifilm!!!!

L,
You've mentioned 24 or 26 megapixels at least a couple of times, here; and, "the 20 Megapixel barrier". Is it your belief that one needs a sensor with at least 24 million of Fuji's best pixels, to be capable of fully appreciating the Hexanon lenses? I'll ask it another way; are the capabilities and characteristics of the Konica Hexanon lenses wasted on the ancient 16 megapixel Fujifilm X-cameras?
