I use elements 18. Now when I save a photo it adds to the title edited-1.
I have never seen this before.
Ok, I just figured it out. Have to uncheck 'Save in Version Set with Original".

Elements, like Lightroom, does that to help you identify the original vs edited version of an image. That way, you still have the original to fall back on.
I always added a letter x.
I think I will use that feature because there where times where "did I fix that?"

Version sets are a great feature. It’s all that I use. Keeps the originals intact. I also copy ALL of my originals to a folder on an external drive, copy that folder to my HD, then import it into Elements.
I have a similar dilemma with Elements 18! I made the switch from Picassa several months ago, and I hate the fact that in order to eliminate the "editing in progress" banner after editing, I MUST file to My Pictures or Documents. In Picassa, I exported to file only images or albums that I wanted to upload for a link, or to use for an attachment. Gvaner, you lost me with your explanation! I just want to keep it simple! I'm not a pro, so I don't have zillions of photos, but I, too, could use some advice with the filing system for PSE18!

Be careful, if you save an edited jpeg in jpeg format, with the same name it will over-write the original.

Version sets:
https://helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/using/grouping-photos-version-sets.htmlI don't use the Organizer. When I edit a raw file, I save the PSD (the file type that includes all the layers of the edits) and I also do "save as jpg." Both sit in the folder, along with the raw file, that I created when I downloaded files from the camera after an outing.
If you shoot jpg only, just do "save as" and give it a different file name. Your choice as to whether to put it in same folder as original, or a new folder. Since you aren't used to having to take this step, do the "save as" as soon as you open the image.

It warns you, though: "are you sure you want to do this?"
I have PSE 15. PSE has done this from version 1 if you "save as" with a version set. I've always done it this way to save losing the original version. If I want to find the image in another topic, I use a tag with that topic. Then if I want to create a different edit I can always find the original. Never have seen the point of saving differently. I can always delete one version without losing the original if need to.
