Downloaded this photo from the National Geographic web-site. Normally I wouldn't post on UHH, but this is so neat that I thought you would enjoy. The rover Opportunity is officially declared dead after 14.5 years (expected life was 90 - 100 days). Nat'l. Geo. published highlights and this one just struck me. It shows Opportunity looking back at the western rim of Endeavor Crater. I Dhaz'd it a little so it's easier to follow it's track as it winds back to the center of the photo. May need to download to follow the track.

There are some really amazing photos of mars. I have several times, googled images for Mars dunes. Thanks, I might have missed this one.

I was at the Jet Propulsion Lab Family event for Opportunity's landing in, 2004. Each landing milestone was signaled by a tone received from the spacecraft/lander. I don't think I breathed for the last 10 minutes waiting for the touchdown signal.

From 2004 to 2018, they build them pretty rugged in Pasadena, CA

Wow, being at JPL during the landing must have been a great experience. I know I was at the edge of my seat at home waiting for the touchdown signal. When in grad school I worked at the Cape for the summers of '66 and '67. Saw some fantastic launches and know the excitement waiting out the countdown.

Truth be told, there was a boda bag of wine that we smuggled into the auditorium. Each landing signal involved a slug of wine. By the touchdown, we were all quite happy.
