Intriguing photo
Very nice
Thanks
I've heard of Henry Maudslay, one of the fathers of the industrial revolution. We studied him in school and I've seen a documentary or two he and his inventions were featured in. And of course I've heard of the Maudslay Motor Company. We covered them in school also. One may even say Henry was one of the great grandparents or at least great grand uncle of the modern diesel electric locomotive, although he personally had nothing to do with it. Yes, it was a great old brand.
Is the radiator on an old bus? Nice photo.
The radiator is on a WW1 lorry. There is a twist to this one inasmuch as the picture shows a union flag in the background and the Maudslay family was connected with the establishment of the Standard Motor Company of Coventry, founded by Reginald Walter Maudslay. Standard was once one of the 'Big Six' British car manufacturers and also manufactured Ferguson tractors. (Flag - Standard - Get it?). Standard once supplied engines and chassis to Swallow then SS cars, the original names of the Jaguar car company. In 1945 it absorbed what was left of Triumph Cars (not to be confused with Triumph Motor Cycles - hived off previously) but later fell on hard times and was taken over by lorry/bus manufacturers Leyland which itself later became part of the British Leyland Motor Corporation, now only a memory.
