You know how it is when a big tree blows down
but some of its roots are still in the soil ? Many
little vertical shoots grow out of the trunk and
animals that would never have fed on the tree
when it was standing upright can now feed on
all those tender little new growth shoots. But it
is a temporary source for those critters and the
tree itself is acoarst down forever.
